Step Through the Research

Step # 1.  Analyze the options.

Tri-College has a chart to help you get started. .xlxs  |   PDF

Colleges use different names for majors and minors; the ACT and College Board sites may help.  .

Reviewing the course descriptions and course catalogs are a must to make sure it's a unique minor and what course are offered.

Step # 2. Use home campus resources.

  • Work closely with your advisor / advising center as you research possible minors, and have a clear graduation timeline.
  • Visit the home campus career center; they can help with figuring out how a minor can enhance career options.
  • Network with your instructors, mentors, and peers to find out more about minors.

Step #3. Know the facts.

  • How many credits are required for a minor? this varies between campuses
  • What are the core/required classes? are there home campus classes that might count toward a minor
  • What are the elective classes?
  • Do you already have any pre-requisites and/or co-requisites?
  • Other requirements? review the requirements for other details that will impact you

Step #4. When are classes offered?

  • Use the host campus course schedule so you know when classes are offered.
  • Map out your graduation timeline.

Tip: Past course schedules are a good indicator of when classes may be offered.
