Transfer of Credit and Residence Requirements

Applicants presenting transcripts from other accredited graduate schools may have a maximum of 8 semester credits applied to the appropriate Educational Leadership Program if the coursework satisfies curriculum requirements of the TCU program as determined by the adviser and Educational Leadership Program chairperson. Only courses completed with a grade of A or B may be considered for acceptance. (A grade of B- is considered to be below that of a B and is unacceptable for transfer.) Transfer courses can be applied to a TCU degree only if they are no more than seven years old at the time the final oral exam is passed. (Within the TCU Educational Leadership Program, coursework completed at either MSUM or NDSU is considered to be residence credit. One institution's credit is therefore not counted as transfer credit to the other institution.)

Applicants presenting graduate transcripts that include special topics or continuing education coursework completed through either Minnesota State University Moorhead or North Dakota State University may apply those credits to the appropriate TCU program if:

  • Those courses meet the criteria in the paragraph above;
  • The instructor was approved to offer graduate courses/credit at either MSUM or NDSU;
  • There is a course syllabus available and related materials to document the nature of the course and its contents; and
  • The adviser and program chair approve.
  • Continuing education coursework completed at an institution other than MSUM or NDSU may not be applied to a TCU degree.
